Dog ear fence is an aesthetically pleasing fence usually used to define property lines. Billboards are usually a short fence, so they do not provide much in the way of security or privacy. These also work well on sloping ground that poles can be raised and lowered. The ear of the dog refers to the cut at the top of the boards of the picket fence. The square corners are cut at an angle, making it look similar to a dog’s ear.

Dig the dog ear fence post holes with the hole digger deep enough that one third of the post will be underground. Put 2 to 3 shovels-filled with gravel at the bottom of the hole. Insert the post and then pack with concrete or dirt. Use a level to make sure the post is straight and then prepare the post to keep it in place. Stack a small mound of dirt around the base of the post to avoid puddling. Let these set for 4 to 5 days. Fix each section closely using nails or screws and brackets possibly depending on how the section was made.
